The popular Cabo de Palos is a pretty fishing village at the southernmost end of the Mar Menor. It is an irregular-shaped peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the Mediterranean with a lighthouse at the end. The hills of the Calblanque National Park can be seen nearby along with some fantastic sandy beaches along the coastline. The Mar Menor is ideal for swimming in its warm, shallow waters and there are many watersports activities available both here and on the Mediterranean coast. Windsurfing, sailing, kite surfing, jet skiing, diving and snorkeling can all be enjoyed here.

The Strip is lined with local shops and restaurants and all remain open until late in typical Spanish fashion. Peke Park is another attraction in Cabo de Palos. It has many rides suitable for younger children and a bouncy castle. The local supermarket is right next door.

Cabo de Palos is close to Playa Honda and La Manga Resort and Golf Club which offers some of the best golf in the region. There is also a tennis academy and a football school at La Manga Golf Club, as well as a luxury spa and fine dining in the many restaurants onsite. The local region has a further six golf courses. Walking, cycling, horse riding, karting and bowling can all be enjoyed in the area.

Cabo de Palos is known for its large Sunday market where leather goods, clothing, handbags, olives, fresh fruit and pistachio nuts can all be bartered over. The waterfront is a great place to sit and enjoy a leisurely meal as you watch the local fishing boats and yachts coming in and out of the harbour. Fresh sardines and seafood paella are the local specialities served here and they taste delicious. It is also the place to arrange a boat trip or a fishing charter.

The historic city of Cartagena is just 25 minutes drive away and offers many historic sights, churches, shops and beautiful architecture. Other attractions in the area are the water park at Torrevieja and the zoo at Terra Natura.
