Santiago de la Ribera is a coastal town located on the Murcian coast on the Mar Menor. It has a wide variety of bars, restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlours and pubs and has a great promenade that begins next to the General Air Academy and It ends after the City of Air. The Academia Genera del Aire is a great tourist attraction that holds open days several times a year for all interested visitors. For families with children it is an original and interesting attraction. In the aforementioned promenade there is a children's fair in summer for the enjoyment of holiday makers of all ages. There are also boat trips to La Manga every day and at various times of the day throughout the summer season. At different times of the year, the Barnuevo esplanade offers different cultural, artistic, festive activities, medieval markets, handicrafts and an outlet for all visitors for free. The gastronomy in Santiago de la Ribera is very typical feel of fried fish, rice, cauldrons and the well-known Murcian tapas such as the famous Marinera, the Caballito batter, the Murcian salad or the Bravas potatoes. Water sports such as paddle surfing, sailing or canoeing and water competitions are very typical in this town. Many cyclists use this area for its flat cycle routes which take in beautiful scenery. With regard to transport for travel, the closest airports are Corvera-Murcia and El Altet-Alicante. The closest train station is Balsicas-Murcia, from where daily trains depart to different parts in Spain.
